Spanish Architect, Santiago Calatrava, is known internationally as one of the greatest living designers of public spaces. If you’ve ever been to Dallas and come toward Deep Ellum from Oak Cliff, you’ve seen his work. We thought it would be fun to ask an artificial intelligence to consider his work and design a concept for a new international sporting arena.

I was the among the first generation of children in the United States to have been raised with a computer as a tool. As a 7th Grader at North Little Rock’s Central Junior High School, my Algebra teacher, Mrs. Havlin, introduced me to lab with a few Apple IIe’s. Then I watched “War Games.” Suffice it to say, I’ve, been dreaming of this day since the early 80’s. This morning I sat down with Chat GPT for the first time to “test” it. And while I feel it is quite obvious in what follows that I am dealing with an algorithm trained on a very specific set of language and data, it is also quite clear that I am being reintroduced, almost as a child again, to what strings of code and hardware can become. And I remain, as always, smitten. There is a ghost in the machine.
And everybody knows it.
